Preparing for Your Session

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes in natural fibres if possible — you'll remain fully dressed throughout. Avoid heavy meals, alcohol, or caffeine for two hours beforehand, as these can interfere with energy sensitivity. Some practitioners suggest drinking plenty of water in the days leading up to your session.

Arrive with an open mind about what you might experience. Chakra healing works within a specific energetic framework, so familiarising yourself with the seven chakras beforehand can enhance your session. Consider what areas of your life feel stuck or imbalanced — emotional patterns, physical tensions, or life transitions you're navigating.

Bring a water bottle and perhaps a light snack for afterwards, as energy work can leave some people feeling either energised or deeply relaxed. If you have specific intentions for the session — whether that's releasing grief, finding clarity, or simply exploring the practice — share these with your practitioner during the initial consultation.

The Session Experience

Your session begins with a consultation where the practitioner asks about your current challenges, energy levels, and what drew you to chakra healing. This typically takes 10-15 minutes and helps them understand which chakras might need attention.

You'll then lie comfortably on a massage table or sit in a chair, remaining fully clothed. The practitioner may dim the lights and play soft music or use singing bowls to create a calming atmosphere. They'll likely begin by 'scanning' your energy field — either by holding their hands a few inches above your body or through gentle, light touch at chakra points.

The main healing phase lasts 30-45 minutes. Your practitioner might use various techniques: placing crystals on or near your body, guiding you through colour visualisations, using sound healing with bowls or chimes, or working with their hands in your energy field. They may focus on specific chakras that feel blocked or work systematically from root to crown. Some practitioners incorporate breathwork or gentle movement.

The session concludes with integration time — usually 5-10 minutes of stillness to allow the energy work to settle. Your practitioner will then gently bring you back to full awareness and may share what they observed about your energy patterns.

What You Might Experience

Experiences during chakra healing vary dramatically between individuals and even between sessions. Many people report deep relaxation, similar to meditation or a massage. You might feel warmth, tingling, or gentle pulsing sensations where crystals are placed or where the practitioner is working.

Some people experience vivid colours behind closed eyelids, particularly when specific chakras are being addressed. Emotional releases aren't uncommon — you might feel sudden waves of sadness, joy, or other emotions without obvious triggers. These typically pass quickly and often feel cleansing rather than distressing.

Physically, you may notice your breathing deepening, muscle tension releasing, or a feeling of energy moving through your body. Some people report seeing mental images or having insights about their lives. Others experience very little during the session but notice shifts in the following days.

After sessions, people commonly report feeling more balanced, clearer in their thinking, or emotionally lighter. Some feel energised while others need rest. Occasionally, people experience what practitioners call 'healing reactions' — temporary intensification of symptoms or emotions as energy blocks clear. These typically resolve within 24-48 hours.

Post-Session Care

Drink plenty of water for 24 hours after your session to support the body's natural detoxification processes. Many energy healing traditions emphasise hydration as essential for maintaining energetic flow.

Avoid alcohol, heavy foods, or overstimulating activities immediately after your session. Your energy system may be more sensitive than usual, so gentle activities like walking in nature, journaling, or light stretching often feel supportive. Some people prefer quiet time at home to process their experience.

Pay attention to your dreams, emotional patterns, and physical sensations over the next few days. Keep a simple journal of any shifts you notice — these might include improved sleep, changed appetite, different emotional responses to usual triggers, or new insights about ongoing situations.

If you experience any concerning emotional responses or physical symptoms, contact your practitioner for guidance. Most experienced chakra healers are skilled at helping clients integrate their experiences and can suggest grounding techniques if needed.

Building a Treatment Programme

Most practitioners recommend an initial series of 3-4 sessions spaced one to two weeks apart, allowing time for integration between appointments. This gives both you and your practitioner time to observe patterns and adjust the approach accordingly.

The first session often focuses on assessment and general balancing, while subsequent sessions can target specific chakras or life areas that emerge as priorities. Some people notice shifts after a single session, but sustained changes typically develop over multiple appointments.

After the initial series, many people choose maintenance sessions monthly or quarterly, particularly during periods of stress or transition. Others prefer intensive periods of work followed by breaks. The frequency depends entirely on your individual response and goals.

Chakra healing often works synergistically with other practices like meditation, yoga, or counselling. Your practitioner may suggest complementary approaches or homework between sessions — simple visualisation exercises, specific yoga poses, or working with particular crystals. The key is finding a rhythm that supports your ongoing growth without becoming overwhelming.
