Preparing for Your Session

Arrive well-hydrated, as muscle testing relies on clear nervous system responses. Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to your arm for muscle testing — avoid restrictive sleeves or heavy jewellery that might interfere with movement. Some practitioners prefer you avoid caffeine beforehand, though this varies by individual approach.

Bring any specific concerns or life areas you'd like to explore, but don't feel pressured to have a detailed agenda. Within the Emotion Code framework, your subconscious will guide the process through muscle testing responses. Consider what emotions or patterns have been troubling you, but remain open to whatever emerges during the session.

Many practitioners work remotely using proxy testing, where they test on themselves whilst focusing on your energy. If you're new to this concept, discuss beforehand how remote sessions operate within their practice.

The Session Unfolds

Your practitioner begins by establishing clear muscle testing responses with you. They'll typically test your arm strength whilst asking simple true/false questions to calibrate strong (yes) and weak (no) responses. This baseline testing usually takes 5-10 minutes and helps ensure reliable communication throughout the session.

The core work involves systematic questioning to identify trapped emotions. Your practitioner consults the Emotion Code chart — a reference containing 60 emotions organised into columns and rows. Through muscle testing, they narrow down which column, then which specific emotion is ready for release. Questions might include "Is this emotion from childhood?" or "Did this occur during a relationship?"

Once an emotion is identified, the practitioner gathers additional information through testing: which body meridian it's affecting, whether it's inherited, and if there are associated physical symptoms. This detective work typically takes 15-20 minutes per trapped emotion.

The release itself involves either swiping a magnet along your governing meridian (the line running from your forehead down your spine) or using intention and visualisation if working remotely. The practitioner makes three deliberate passes, believing this clears the energetic imprint. Sessions usually last 45-60 minutes, addressing 2-4 emotions.

What You Might Experience

During muscle testing, you may notice distinct strength differences in your arm responses, though some people feel these more clearly than others. Many report a sense of recognition when specific emotions are identified — "Yes, that's exactly what I've been carrying." Others feel nothing obvious during the process itself.

Emotional releases can manifest immediately or unfold over the following days. Some people experience temporary intensification of the emotion being released — feeling sadness more acutely before it lifts, for example. Physical sensations might include warmth, tingling, or changes in areas where emotions were supposedly trapped.

Don't worry if you feel nothing dramatic. Within this framework, the work is believed to occur on energetic levels that aren't always consciously perceptible. Some practitioners suggest that processing happens during sleep or through dreams in the days following.

The experience varies enormously between individuals. Some report immediate relief or clarity, whilst others notice subtle shifts in how they respond to previously triggering situations over the following weeks.

After Your Session

Drink plenty of water to support what practitioners call "energetic processing." Many suggest avoiding alcohol for 24 hours and eating lightly if you feel emotionally sensitive. Some people feel energised, others temporarily drained — both are considered normal responses.

Pay attention to your dreams and emotional responses over the next 48 hours. Within the Emotion Code understanding, your system may continue releasing and rebalancing during this period. Keep a journal if you're curious about patterns or shifts.

Avoid making major life decisions immediately after sessions, particularly if you feel emotionally stirred up. Allow time for any releases to settle before evaluating how you feel about persistent life challenges.

If you experience unexpected emotional intensity, this is viewed within the practice as part of the clearing process rather than a concerning reaction. However, trust your instincts about what feels manageable for you.

Planning Your Course

Most practitioners suggest spacing sessions 1-2 weeks apart to allow processing between appointments. Within the Emotion Code framework, your body can only release a certain number of trapped emotions at once without becoming overwhelmed.

People typically work through 6-10 sessions to address significant emotional patterns, though this varies widely based on individual goals and what emerges through testing. Some focus on specific trauma periods, others take a more general approach to clearing whatever surfaces.

Some practitioners teach you to self-test so you can work independently between sessions or after completing formal sessions. This involves learning to muscle test yourself and use the emotion chart at home.

Progress within this system is often subtle rather than dramatic. Rather than expecting immediate transformation, practitioners suggest noticing gradual shifts in how you respond to familiar triggers or whether old emotional patterns feel less charged over time.
