Before Your Appointment
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes that won't restrict your breathing or movement - think soft fabrics rather than anything tight or structured. You'll remain fully clothed throughout the session, so choose items that make you feel relaxed and at ease.
Avoid alcohol for 24 hours beforehand, and consider eating lightly rather than arriving on a completely empty or overly full stomach. Some practitioners suggest drinking plenty of water in the day leading up to your session, though this varies by individual approach.
Bring nothing except yourself and an open mind. Many people find it helpful to set aside any pressing concerns or to-do lists mentally before arriving - though your practitioner will likely guide you through this settling process once you're there.
The Session Experience
Your practitioner will begin with a conversation about your current wellbeing, any specific concerns, and what drew you to Golden Age Reiki. This discussion often includes an explanation of how they understand the 'Golden Age' spiritual framework and how it informs their healing approach.
You'll then lie down on a comfortable treatment table, similar to a massage table but usually softer. The room will typically be warmly lit with soft music playing - practitioners often choose sounds that evoke peace and spiritual connection.
The energy work itself involves your practitioner placing their hands gently on or just above various points on your body, starting usually at your head and moving systematically downwards. Each hand placement lasts several minutes, and you might notice warmth, tingling, or simply a sense of focused attention in that area. Some people feel very little during the session itself.
Throughout the 45-60 minute treatment, your practitioner may speak quietly about Golden Age principles - concepts like harmony, spiritual evolution, or humanity's potential for peace. This isn't a lecture but rather gentle guidance meant to support the energy work. The entire session typically lasts 60-90 minutes including the initial conversation and time to settle afterwards.
What You Might Feel
During the session, you may experience physical sensations like warmth spreading from where your practitioner's hands rest, gentle tingling, or waves of relaxation moving through your body. Some people fall into a light sleep or enter a deeply meditative state.
Emotionally, many report feeling peaceful or experiencing unexpected emotional releases - perhaps tears or a sense of relief you hadn't anticipated. Others describe feeling spiritually 'held' or sensing a connection to something larger than themselves, which practitioners often relate to the Golden Age teachings about universal harmony.
After the session, you might feel deeply relaxed, energised, or sometimes both in succession. Some people experience vivid dreams that night or find themselves processing emotions over the following days. Equally common is feeling very little immediate change - responses to energy work vary dramatically between individuals and even between sessions for the same person.
It's worth noting that some people feel temporarily more sensitive or emotionally open after energy healing work. This usually settles within 24-48 hours.
Caring for Yourself Afterwards
Plan for a gentle evening following your session. Many practitioners recommend drinking extra water and avoiding stimulants like caffeine or intense physical exercise for the rest of the day. Think of this as integration time rather than strict rules.
Some people benefit from journaling about any thoughts, feelings, or insights that arose during or after the session. Others prefer to simply rest and allow whatever they experienced to settle naturally without analysis.
Avoid making major decisions or engaging in stressful activities for the remainder of the day if possible. If you feel emotionally sensitive, this is normal and usually temporary - gentle activities like walking in nature, warm baths, or early nights often feel supportive.
Contact your practitioner if you experience anything concerning or have questions about your response to the session. Most practitioners expect this settling-in period and are available for brief check-ins by phone or email.
Building a Programme
Most Golden Age Reiki practitioners suggest an initial course of 3-4 sessions spaced 1-2 weeks apart to give you a proper sense of how this approach affects you personally. This isn't because energy healing requires multiple sessions to 'work', but because people's responses often develop and deepen with familiarity.
After this initial period, some people choose monthly sessions for ongoing support, while others book appointments as needed during stressful periods or major life transitions. There's no prescribed programme - the frequency depends entirely on your personal response and circumstances.
Some practitioners offer workshops or group sessions focused on Golden Age spiritual teachings alongside individual treatments. These can provide context for the philosophical framework underlying the energy work, though individual sessions remain the core of the practice.
Pay attention to how you feel in the days and weeks following sessions rather than expecting immediate dramatic changes. Many people report subtle shifts in stress levels, sleep quality, or emotional resilience that become apparent over time rather than immediately after treatment.
