Preparing for Your Session

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes in natural fabrics if possible. You'll remain fully clothed throughout the session, though you may be asked to remove shoes and jewellery. Avoid heavy meals for two hours beforehand, but don't arrive hungry—light snacks are fine.

Bring a water bottle and perhaps a journal for afterwards. Many people find it helpful to set an intention before arriving, particularly around themes of truth, authenticity, or areas where you feel stuck or unclear. Unlike some other Reiki systems, Satya specifically focuses on uncovering what's genuinely true for you.

Avoid alcohol or recreational substances for 24 hours prior, as these may interfere with your ability to receive insights. If you're taking prescription medications, continue as normal—this practice works alongside conventional treatments.

The Treatment Experience

Your practitioner will begin with a brief discussion about your intentions and any areas you'd like to explore. You'll then lie on a treatment table, usually face up initially. The room is typically dimmed with soft music, though some practitioners prefer silence to avoid influencing your internal process.

The practitioner places their hands gently on or just above your body, beginning often with your head and moving systematically through energy centres. Each hand position lasts 3-5 minutes. You may feel warmth, tingling, or gentle pulsing sensations, though some people notice little physical sensation initially.

Unlike Western Reiki adaptations, Japanese approaches often include specific breathing techniques and visualisations. Your practitioner may guide you through these or work silently, allowing your own awareness to surface. The emphasis on 'satya' (truth) means practitioners focus on what authentically emerges rather than directing healing toward predetermined outcomes.

Sessions typically last 60-90 minutes. The latter part often involves integration time where you simply rest while the energy settles.

What You Might Experience

Physical sensations vary considerably. Some people feel deep relaxation, warmth spreading through their body, or gentle tingling. Others notice very little during the session but feel different afterwards. Emotional responses are common—you might find yourself crying, laughing, or experiencing unexpected feelings without obvious triggers.

Many people report insights or realisations during treatment, particularly around areas where they haven't been truthful with themselves. These can range from subtle clarity about relationships to profound shifts in understanding personal patterns. Some experience vivid imagery or memories, while others simply feel a sense of 'coming home' to themselves.

After the session, you may feel deeply relaxed, emotionally lighter, or paradoxically more aware of previously suppressed feelings. Some people feel energised, others need rest. Emotional processing can continue for several days as the treatment integrates.

Aftercare and Integration

Drink plenty of water over the next 24 hours to support the energetic shifts. Many practitioners recommend avoiding alcohol, heavy foods, or overstimulating activities immediately after treatment. Gentle movement like walking or stretching can help integration.

Keep a journal nearby for the first few days. Insights, dreams, or emotional shifts may continue as the treatment works through your system. This is particularly important with Satya work, where truth-seeking insights can emerge gradually rather than all at once.

Be gentle with yourself if emotions surface unexpectedly. This is normal and often indicates healing around areas where authenticity has been compromised. Contact your practitioner if you experience overwhelming emotional responses—most offer brief check-ins between sessions.

Avoid making major life decisions for 48 hours unless they feel genuinely aligned and have been emerging over time. The clarity that comes through this work should feel grounded, not reactive.

Treatment Course and Frequency

Most people begin with 3-4 sessions scheduled weekly or fortnightly. This allows each treatment to integrate before building on the work. Unlike symptom-focused approaches, Satya Japanese Reiki often works in layers—early sessions may address surface tensions, while later ones facilitate deeper self-discovery.

After the initial series, many people continue monthly sessions for maintenance and ongoing personal development. Others choose intensive periods during life transitions or when facing particular challenges around authenticity and life direction.

Some practitioners offer longer intensive sessions (2-3 hours) for deeper work, though these are typically recommended only after you're familiar with how you respond to the energy. The frequency that serves you best will become apparent through experience—this practice emphasises following your own authentic knowing rather than prescribed schedules.
