Preparing for Your Session
Arrive wearing comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that won't restrict your breathing or movement during extended periods of sitting or lying down. Natural fabrics like cotton or linen are often preferred, though this isn't essential.
Eat lightly beforehand — a heavy meal may leave you feeling sluggish during the meditative work. Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours prior, as practitioners believe this can interfere with the subtle awareness the technique aims to cultivate. Bring a water bottle, as you may feel thirsty afterwards.
Set aside any urgent concerns about your day. Many practitioners suggest arriving ten minutes early to settle your mind and transition away from external pressures. Some people find it helpful to reflect on what they hope to explore or understand during the session, though this isn't required.
The Session Experience
Your practitioner will begin with a brief conversation about your intentions and any previous meditation experience. This typically lasts 10-15 minutes and helps them tailor the session to your needs.
The main practice usually takes place with you seated comfortably or lying down, eyes closed. The practitioner guides you through specific breathing patterns and visualisation exercises designed to focus your awareness on particular energy centres. You might be asked to imagine light or warmth in different parts of your body, or to direct your attention to specific focal points.
Sessions commonly last 60-90 minutes, with the guided practice forming the central 45-60 minutes. The practitioner may speak periodically to offer direction, but much of the time passes in supported silence. Some practitioners incorporate gentle background music or use singing bowls to mark transitions between different phases of the work.
The session concludes with a gradual return to ordinary awareness, usually taking 5-10 minutes to allow you to reorient slowly.
What You Might Experience
Experiences during Radiance Technique sessions vary considerably between individuals and even between sessions for the same person. Many people report deep relaxation and a sense of expanded awareness. Some describe feeling warmth, tingling sensations, or subtle energy movements in different parts of their body.
Emotional responses can range from profound peace to unexpected emotions surfacing. Some people experience vivid imagery or colours during the visualisation portions, whilst others simply feel a deep inner stillness. A few individuals report feeling nothing particularly notable during their first session — this is entirely normal.
Afterwards, common experiences include feeling refreshed yet relaxed, sometimes with a heightened sense of clarity or connection. Others feel quite sleepy and benefit from gentle reintegration. Some people notice shifts in their awareness or perspective that become apparent over the following days rather than immediately.
Post-Session Care
Drink plenty of water following your session, as many practitioners believe the energy work requires good hydration for optimal integration. Avoid intense physical exercise or stimulating activities for the remainder of the day if possible.
Some people feel emotionally sensitive or particularly receptive after sessions. Plan gentle activities and avoid making significant decisions on session days. Taking a warm bath, spending time in nature, or engaging in quiet creative pursuits often feels supportive.
Keep a journal if you're inclined — insights or realisations sometimes emerge over the 24-48 hours following a session rather than immediately. Notice any changes in your sleep patterns, dreams, or general sense of well-being.
Schedule your next session within 1-2 weeks initially, as practitioners believe regular engagement helps establish and deepen the energetic patterns the technique works with.
Building Your Practice
Most practitioners recommend beginning with weekly sessions for at least 4-6 weeks to establish familiarity with the technique. Unlike some healing modalities focused on specific symptoms, the Radiance Technique views itself as an ongoing practice for consciousness development.
After the initial period, many people transition to fortnightly or monthly sessions, often incorporating daily meditation practices learned during their sessions. Some practitioners offer group sessions or workshops to deepen understanding of the technique's principles.
The technique includes multiple 'degrees' or levels, each building on previous learning. Progressing through these levels typically occurs over months or years rather than weeks, as practitioners believe genuine integration requires time and consistent practice.
