The Consultation

A professional aromatherapy session begins with a thorough health consultation covering your current concerns, stress levels, sleep, digestion, skin sensitivities, allergies, medications, and any contraindications. Your practitioner will also explore your scent preferences — therapeutically significant because scents that you personally find calming will produce stronger relaxation responses.

Oil Selection and Blending

One hallmark of professional aromatherapy is bespoke blending. Rather than using a standard product, your practitioner selects 3–5 oils that address your specific presentation and blends them at precise dilutions in a carrier oil. You will typically be invited to smell the blend before application — both as a check on your response and because inhalation begins the therapeutic effect immediately.

The Treatment

Most professional sessions incorporate massage — either full-body aromatherapy massage or a more focused treatment. The massage techniques are typically flowing and relaxation-oriented. You will also inhale the oils throughout the session. The combined inhalation and skin absorption produces a more comprehensive effect than either route alone.

After the Session

You should leave noticeably relaxed. Your practitioner will typically give you a small amount of the blend for home use and guidance on self-care between sessions. Some people notice a period of heightened sensitivity or emotional openness after treatment — resting, drinking water, and avoiding alcohol are standard post-treatment recommendations.
